Gunman, Jason Rodriguez, opened fire Friday in the offices of the engineering firm that fired him over two years ago. Jason Rodriguez killed one person and has injured five others in the Orlando shooting.

Jason Rodriguez, 40, surrendered three hours after the shooting when police saw him through the window of his mother’s home.

When a reporter outside the police station asked Rodriguez why he did it, he replied: “Because they left me to rot.”

Jason Rodriguez brought a handgun to the engineering firm in a downtown office tower where he formerly worked as an engineer.

“This is a tragedy, no doubt about it, especially on the heels of the tragedy in Fort Hood that is on our minds,” Demings said. “I’m just glad we don’t have any more fatalities or any more injuries than we currently have.”

Camille Previlon told The Associated Press her uncle, engineer Guy Lungenbel, was shot in the back and was able to talk but had not said much about the shooting.

“He is stable,” she said. “He’s just hurting real bad in the back.”

The people shot were in the offices of Reynolds Smith & Hill, on the eighth floor. The five survivors were in stable condition, Demings said.

Company spokesman Mike Bernos said Jason Rodriguez was an entry-level engineer who was fired in June 2007 after working there for a year.

“His performance wasn’t up to our standards, so we terminated him,” Bernos said. There had been no contact between the company and Rodriguez since then.

Two Men Shot Down As Gunman Attacks LA Synagogue….

LAPD

A gunman approached a North Hollywood synagogue this morning and shot two people before fleeing, according to police, who are investigating the attack as a hate crime. The shooting occurred at 6:20 a.m. at the Adat Yeshurun Valley Sephardic synagogue in the 12000 block of Sylvan Street. Two men about 30 years old were each shot in the lower torso and were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to an LAPD spokesperson. The LAPD described them as Jewish.

LAPD sources told The Times that the gunman approached the victims as they were about to enter the temple for morning prayers. The sources said the gunman pulled out his weapon and fired. The gun jammed at first, then he fired again. Detectives don’t believe the motive was robbery, said the sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the investigation is ongoing. At about 7:40 a.m., Los Angeles police arrested a man near the synagogue, but the sources say they don’t believe he was the gunman.
