According to the Los Angeles Times:
Singer Christina Aguilera was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of public drunkenness early Tuesday morning, officials said. Aguilera, 30, was booked on a single count of public drunkenness at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. Officials said deputies pulled over a car that she was a passenger in near a West Hollywood club. The driver was cited for drunken driving, and Aguilera was also taken into custody because she was intoxicated, the officials said. She was in the process of being released on $250 bail.
SMDH! Since when do people get locked up for being drunk in a passenger seat!
According to an interview with Paul Wall in an upcoming issue of Ozone Magazine, he lost the weight through a procedure called Gastric Sleeve. Check out an excerpt from the interview below:
When did you decide to get serious about losing weight?
Honestly, when we were in Afghanistan and [reps for VH1's] Celebrity Fit Club were contacting [me] about coming on the show. That was a hell of a wake-up call. [Being fat] isn’t a secret. You can look in the mirror and try to hide it and cover it up, and it may work here or there, but there ain’t no shirt or hat you can put on or haircut you can get to hide the fact that you’re morbidly obese. That’s what the doctor said: I was “morbidly obese.” I decided not to do [the show] but it was still a wake-up call to have people calling you saying, “Hey, you’re really, really fat.”
What kind of weight-loss surgery did you get?
The surgery I got is called gastric sleeve. There’s three kinds: gastric bypass, lap band, and the gastric sleeve. Gastric bypass is the one where you lose the most weight the quickest; it’s for people who are 400-500 pounds and have health problems that they need to fix right away. Since [the weight loss] happens so fast it leaves you with a lot of saggy skin. The lap band, which is very popular, is when they put a band around your stomach and it makes you feel like you’re full, so you don’t eat. But there’s ways to cheat with it, and with the lap band, you can always get it removed to go back to normal. [My weight] has been up and down my whole life, so I wanted to do something to permanently fix the problem. Since going back and forth on the drugs for years and taking diet pills, my metabolism was really gone. So I decided to go with the gastric sleeve, because it’s a little more serious than the lap band. They also cut out the hormones that make you hungry. So I actually don’t even get hungry anymore. The doctor talked me out of doing the lap band; he told me it’s the most popular, but it’s not as effective. With the lap band, you lose about 50% of your excess weight. I was 120 pounds overweight. I weighed 320 pounds, and I’m six feet tall. So with the lap band I still would’ve been morbidly obese. With the gastric sleeve, you typically lose 80% of your excess fat. I lost 100 pounds with it, so that’s putting me in a more healthy weight class.
Having lost 100 pounds, do you see a noticeable difference in your life?
Yeah, hands down. I feel like I got my life back. When you’re so big like that, it’s embarrassing. I didn’t want to go out and be seen. I felt uncomfortable because I’m not used to being that big. People would see me and say something about it, because it was no secret. I was morbidly obese, 120 pounds overweight. It was just embarrassing. I’d be on stage feeling like I was about to collapse. I’d get dizzy spells. I’d be on the airplane and have to ask for seatbelt extensions. Once you go up in the air, it’s really hard to breath. I was just thinking, “What if I have a heart attack?” I want to be here for my kids. I don’t want to have a heart attack. My son is four and my daughter is two and a half. The doctor told me that when you’re 50 pounds overweight, it takes 15 years off your life. So it literally saved my life.
Have you been working out too?
Nah. I’ve probably worked out twice since I had [the surgery] and that was just a light workout.
Luckily he was released in time to still hit the stage for his scheduled show.
The officer in charge at the station Jeezy was taken into says – “He we here with us a short while, he passed through the station briefly on Saturday. He was booked in here and taken to CDU (Central Detective Unit)”
There are no details as to why exactly Jeezy was arrested but the one thing that is known is that is stems from an incident that occured before his show in New Providence.
Young Jeezy‘s manager, Demetrius Ellerbee, has denied a report that the rapper was arrested in the Bahamas on Saturday.
“It’s not true,” Ellerbee told MTV News.
According to Bahamian newspaper The Tribune, Jeezy was on his way to a show in an area of the island called New Providence when he was arrested by local officials. While the reason for his arrest was not specified, the paper says the rapper wasn’t held for very long.
“He was here with us a short while. He passed through the station briefly on Saturday,” said Superintendent Ashton Greenslade, an officer at the Wulff Road station. “He was booked in here and taken to CDU (Central Detective Unit).”
A Tribune source surmised that the Atlanta MC was simply “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The love lost between artists
Christina Milian and The-Dream came
with a lot of zeros. Not long after
mega producer and singer The Dream
was spotted with a random woman on
the beach who later turned out to
be his assistant and Christina’s
friend, a divorce was in
proceedings. It’s being reported a
court awarded Christina Milian with
a $4 million settlement.
The infamous Philadelphia swim club that made headlines for turning away Black and Latino children that changed the “complexion” of the business is getting its just due after being served with court papers.
The Justice Department has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the Huntingdon Valley swim club claiming that the establishment engaged in a pattern of racial discrimination.
The lawsuit is seeking to ban the swim club and any other business from acting in a manner.
Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez for the Civil Rights Division issued a statement denouncing the swim club saying,
“It is illegal and inexcusable to discriminate against patrons by barring them from a place of public accommodation on the basis of race or color.”
If you can remember, following the incident in the summer the Huntingdon Valley Swim Club was fined $50,000 by the Pennsylvania Human Rights Commission and was forced to file for bankruptcy.
Damn. Karma is a….
Zoe Saldana plays blue-skinned Neytiri in “Avatar,” which has racked up more than $1 billion worldwide. Now her natural visage is being put to good use — I’ve learned that Saldana will join cosmetics company Avon as a brand ambassador. “She’s thrilled,” a source close to the deal tells me. She’s also in good company. Saldana will join other stars aligned with the brand, including Fergie, Reese Witherspoon, Patrick Dempsey, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Salma Hayek and Derek Jeter.
Reps for Saldana did not return requests for comment. An Avon rep was unavailable at press time.
With her success in the “Star Trek” update, 2009 was kind to Saldana, and she shows no signs of slowing this year: She’s poised to release several major films, including director Neil LaBute’s take on “Death at a Funeral”; the 2010 version costars Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and James Marsden.
And that aforementioned tiny art house flick “Avatar”? Saldana’s blue face in that flick won’t be going away any time soon — after four solid weeks at No. 1, it was confirmed as the second-highest-grossing film ever overseas and globally and the seventh-highest in U.S. history.
MTV News reports:
G-Unit member Lloyd Banks and three associates, who were jailed after allegedly assaulting and robbing a concert promoter in Canada, were released on bail Tuesday (January 12), but Banks and 1 associate were remanded by Canadian immigration. A review is scheduled for later this week, after which the two could be released and allowed to return to the U.S.
The 2 others, who were also jailed in connection with the incident, are expected to return to the United States later Today.
All four men were arrested just after 5 a.m. on Saturday at a hotel in Kitchener. According to authorities, Banks and his associates party assaulted and robbed a local show promoter/ booking agent in his hotel room early Saturday in a dispute over pay for a concert appearance. The four were charged with criminal confinement, robbery and aggravated assault. Although police have not named the alleged victim, Banks’ lawyer, Patrick Ducharme, told MTV News that he is veteran booking agent Chris Hines.
“The case probably will proceed on the basis that it will be put over for three to four weeks for me to receive what is called the ‘prosecutors disclosure.’ That’s all the information that supposedly supports the charges,” Ducharme, who expects to enter a not guilty plea on behalf of Banks in approximately month, told MTV News late Monday. “Then three to four weeks after I’ve had the chance to review that disclosure, I would be prepared to set the date for the trial or preliminary hearing, depending on some procedural matters. The case will proceed through the courts. If it stays in the lower courts, it takes about a year and a few months to resolve. If it goes to the higher courts, it could be as along as a year and a half to bring the matter to court.”
At press time, Ducharme and the case’s prosecutor had not responded to MTV News’ requests for further comment.
