Jay-Z & Sade To Join Alicia Keys @ 7th Annual Black Ball Charity Concert In NYC

Alicia Keys is bringing Jay-Z and Sade to the seventh annual Black Ball charity concert. The “Doesn’t Mean Anything” singer has announced that all three of them are all set to perform at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on September 30 during the fundraising event organized by her Keep a Child Alive (KCA) organization.

“Sade? Jay-Z? Both icons and both major influences of mine,” the pregnant R& B singer said in a statement. “I am overwhelmed by their generosity in helping us continue the tradition of making the Black Ball the best fundraiser in NYC.” She further promised, “There are more surprises coming up! Stay tuned!”

Last year’s Black Ball was also held in New York. Co-hosted by Alicia, Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi and supermodel Iman, it drew 1,000 guests and raised more than $2 million. Youssou N’Dour, John Mayer and Coldplay’s Chris Martin were some of the performers, while Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige, Nick Cannon and Usher are among the celebrities who came to support the cause.

Co-founded by 29-year-old Alicia, KCA provides financial support to orphan care and clinical centers in countries, such as Rwanda and Uganda, and helps families struggling with HIV/AIDS throughout India and Africa. Since 2004, the organization has raised over $10 million and has helped more than 250,000 people.

Will I Am: ”Im Probably The Most Hip-Hop N**ga Out Of All These Hip-Hop N**gas”

VIBE.com:
Over the years, you and the Black Eyed Peas have taken hits for not being “real” hip-hop. What is your response?

Will.i.am: I am hip-hop! If there’s anyone that’s the personification of hip-hop, I’m probably the most hip-hop nigga out of all these hip-hop niggas. But hip-hop editorial and blogs and even some of the hip-hop fans don’t see it that way, which is cool. I’m going to win. I’m going to win and win bigger than all these niggas are winning. And they probably don’t see that. I’m winning regardless of what hip-hop thinks of what I am. I won’t shrivel up in a little ball and not continue to rock, rock planet rock, don’t stop just because a few people think the [Black Eyed Peas] is just a pop act.

I [always] knew I was going to move more into dance and club. That’s the reason I produced Nas’ “Hip Hop Is Dead.” People forgot that hip-hop was a bunch of things back in the days. Hip-hop was the Jungle Brothers’ “I’ll House You.” When someone is denying what they are, then that’s when things start to spiral down. Hip-hop is limiting itself and that also goes for editorially. Magazines and websites are the gatekeepers of what people think hip-hop is, but they actually end up limiting what hip-hop can be.

I can do a Talib Kweli track [“Hot Thing”] and Estelle’s “American Boy,” and co-write “Ordinary People” with John Legend and I’m still hip-hop. If Nas calls me for another track, I can do that. But at the same time, if Usher calls me I can do [an “OMG”] as well. Songs like “OMG” are international hits, not just hits on American urban radio. I’m talking about the fucking world! And those kind of accomplishments don’t get you the cover of VIBE. I don’t need anyone to validate me. I am hip-hop.

Now according to AllHipHop, Killa is about to release a new album titled ‘Gunz N’ Butta‘. The album will feature heavy contributions from Cam protege and fellow Harlem native Vado, who co-wrote the album.

“It’s our first album and I promise it’s so much of a classic,” Vado told AllHipHop. “It’s like all the Boss of all Bosses tapes put together. We hit y’all from all angles—we hit y’all from the streets, for the ladies, for the club… It’s five stars, man.

Expect a video real soon for the lead single, “Speaking In Tungs“.

The album is set to drop August 31, followed by Vado’s highly anticipated mixtape, ‘Swine Flu.

Floyd Mayweather Jr Wins 2010 ESPY ‘Best Fighter’ Award

http://thecampussocialite.com/blog/images/moneymay.jpg

The ego driven, self proclaimed, cash cow, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. beat out fellow boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and MMA superstar GSP for the 2010 Espn Espy award of “Best Fighter.”

Floyd Mayweather won the “Best Fighter” Espy award in 2008. When Mayweather retired from boxing Manny Pacquiao won it the following year.

The Espy’s is an award show where the fans get to vote for their favorite athletes in different award categories. Floyd Mayweather had the fan advantage in the polls giving him the edge over his welterweight rival Manny Pacquiao and UFC welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre.

Pacquiao won the BWAA (Boxing Writers Association of America) awards for “Fighter of the Year” and “Fighter of the Decade” which is voted on by members of the BWAA but Mayweather won the popularity vote when he bested Manny Pacquiao for the Espy.

This was interesting situation because Pacquiao is known for his rabid fan base and the stigma surrounding Mayweather was he didn’t have any fans and they only pay to see him lose, tonight’s Espy awards proved otherwise, Mayweather was the fan favorite tonight over Manny Pacquiao.

Did the negative impact of steroid accusations from the Mayweather camp ruin Pacquiao’s image among the fans or were they just more impressed with Floyd Mayweathers dominating performance over Sugar Shane Mosley and not with Pacquiao’s fight against Joshua Clottey?

Do think the right fighter won the award?

Check out the full list of winners below.
