Kanye West enjoying himself at the Elton John concert in Hawaii. They were definitely trying to keep a low profile until Elton John gave Kanye a shoutout and said, “Kanye is One of the Best!!!”
Jay-Z has broken his silence over the recent disses from his former Roc-A-Fella Records artist Beanie Sigel, saying that the entire beef caught him off guard. During an interview with Ed Lover today (Wednesday January 13), Jigga explained his current thoughts on Sigel. “This rap music and the competitive by nature, nothing really surprises me anymore but I’ll honestly say, that was one that was like a shocker.”
Hov added “When you from a certain place, cut from a certain cloth, there’s certain things that’s just off limits. When you cross that line, we put you in a different box. That one was a little surprising. The competitive nature of rap music dictates that’s how it goes more times than it’s not…I think everybody run outta ideas, it’s all just marketing at this point. I don’t even think it’s competition anymore…”
Previously, Beanie Sigel released a Jay-Z dissed called “Average Cat” in which he warned Hov about exposing his habits to his wife, Beyonce. “This ain’t a diss record, this a real record/How it feel to get exposed — I was the fly on the wall, I witnessed,” Beans raps. “I could say sh*t to make B look at you different/And my gangster was never on trial, I was, stood up tall, no snitch/But the rapper Shawn called the police on me/Because I was front row at the Blueprint 3/I just wanted to see him emcee/Reminisce when we were the R-O-C/But he called on the c-o-p’s/Not only that, he brought in the f-e-d’s/So that’s telling me, F-U Sig/So F you too and F Bleek three/Whether I rap or riddle out this motherf*cker — my name good in every hood.”
“I don’t think [Jay-Z] is the number one emcee in no kind of way,” he told Tropical TV. “Wayne’s the best. He do the most and he make the most money. I don’t think no nigga in the business make more money than us. How can you be the best if you don’t make the most money? And you don’t do the most? Lyrically, come on man, be for real, can’t nobody fuck with Wayne…if you number one and you ain’t getting no money it don’t mean nothing.”
Check out Jay-Z’s response below…
Teddy Pendergrass, a singer admired for his bravery in the face of paralysis, has passed away from colon cancer complications. He was 59.
A R&B singer, Pendergrass was paralyzed in a 1982 car accident. He initially rose to fame in the 1970s when he became lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, a group that put out such singles as “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” and “I Miss You.”
The crooner crashed his Rolls-Royce in Philadelphia, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He resumed his recording career the next year with the album “Love Language” and returned to the stage, performing from a wheelchair, at the Live Aid concert in 1985.
He started the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance in 1998. It benefits victims of spinal cord injuries.
Forbes is back with one of their annual lists, and topping it is Jay-Z and Beyonce … for Hollywood’s Top-Earning Couples.
According to the mag, Jay and B raked in a staggering $122 million between June 2008 and June 2009 to put them atop the list … by a mile … for the second year in a row. While both made a large amount of dough during that time period, Beyonce out-earned Jay-Z last year by bringing in $87 million to his $35 million. Last year, the couple sat atop the same list, earning $162 million.
Their fortune was made from Jay-Z’s musical empire, Beyonce’s chart-topping singles, and several clothing lines and ad deals.
The rest of the list is as follows, via Forbes.com:
2 – Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart ($69 million)
For the past few years Ford has stayed out of the spotlight, but he returned in a big way in 2008 with Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Ford earned $65 million for his work in the role. His girlfriend, Calista Flockhart, is no lazy daisy. She stars on the ABC show, Brothers & Sisters.
3 – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ($55 million)
Pitt and Jolie have always gotten plenty of attention, but now they’re making plenty of money too.The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was one of Pitt’s highest grossing films, earning $334 million at the worldwide box office. Jolie is profiting by embracing her inner action hero. Wanted earned $341 million at the worldwide box office. Later this year she’ll appear in Salt as a disgraced CIA agent.
4 – Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith ($48 million)
Smith is without a doubt the biggest movie star in the world. His films have earned a total $5.7 billion at the worldwide box office and studio heads say he earns every penny of his $20 million paycheck. Most of the couple’s earnings come from Smith, but Pinkett Smith has a growing career of her own. She’s been writing and producing films as well as voicing Gloria the hippo in the Madagascar films.
5 – David and Victoria Beckham ($46 million)
Beckham is still a worldwide soccer sensation at the ripe old age of 34. Part of the year he’s a star in Los Angeles with the Galaxy. The rest of the year he plays for A.C. Milan, which should help him land a spot on the England team to appear in a record-tying fourth World Cup this summer. Beckham’s wife, Victoria (better known as Posh Spice), is scheduled to appear as a guest judge on this year’s “American Idol.”
6 – Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi ($36 million)
DeGeneres has become an entertainment mogul. She has a successful talk show, shills for American Express and owns part of a dog food company. Next she’ll take over for Paula Abdul as a judge on “American Idol.” Her significant other, de Rossi, stars in the ABC show “Better Off Ted,” which has garnered a cult following but seems poised for cancellation.
7 – Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson ($35.5 million)
As one of the few actors in Hollywood who can still command a $20 million paycheck, Hanks is the main breadwinner in his house. He had another hit this year with Angels & Demons. The film earned $486 million at the worldwide box office. This summer he’ll once again voice Woody in Toy Story 3. Wilson has a much more low-key career, but she still pops up in best friend roles. She recently appeared with Meryl Streep in It’s Complicated.
8 – Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy ($34 million)
Carrey and McCarthy have been a couple for the last four years and in that time McCarthy’s profile has risen considerably. She’s gone from a Playboy model to an outspoken (and controversial) vaccine opponent. Carrey contributes the majority of money to the pair, but McCarthy will soon have her own television show under Oprah’s Harpo banner.
9 – Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ($33.5 million)
Cruise and Holmes are a source of endless fascination for tabloids and they’re also very rich. Cruise is the family breadwinner, earning $33 million between June 2008 and June 2009. Holmes still acts a little. In 2008 she starred in Mad Money alongside Diane Keaton. Up next for Cruise: Knight & Day with Cameron Diaz
10 – Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow ($33 million)
As the front man for the group Coldplay, Martin outearns Paltrow. The group’s latest album, Viva la Vida, sold 2.6 million copies in the U.S. and 3 million in Europe. Paltrow will be the high-profile spouse in 2010 though when she reprises her role as Tony Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts, in Iron Man 2.
11 – Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick ($29 million)
Thanks to the success of “Sex and the City” (both the TV show and the movie) Sarah Jessica Parker has become a huge movie star. She also has her own line of perfumes and a clothing line, which means she vastly outearns her spouse. These days Broderick focuses on smaller films and Broadway. He is currently in an off-Broadway show called “The Starry Messenger.”
12 – Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ($28 million)
McGraw and Hill are the Jay-Z and Beyonce of country music. Every time NBC plays the Sunday Night Football theme Hill picks up a check. McGraw recently had a double platinum album with Let it Go. The couple has even toured together. Next up for McGraw: movies. He’ll star in Love Don’t Let Me Down opposite Gwyneth Paltrow.
13 – Eva Longoria Parker and Tony Parker ($22 million)
The Parkers are pros at their respective jobs and at racking up lucrative endorsements. San Antonio Spurs point guard Parker has done ads for Nike, FedEx and VitaminWater. When she’s not appearing on “Desperate Housewives,” Longoria Parker shills for L’Oreal, Samsung and Bebe.
14 – Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley ($20 million)
Heigl has become the go-to girl for Hollywood romantic comedies, earning upward of $10 million per picture in the process. Despite complaining publicly about her weak storyline on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Heigl is slated to return to the show this season. Her husband, Kelley, is best known for his 2003 hit song “Amazing.”
15 – Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban ($17 million)
Kidman and Urban earned about the same amount between June 2008 and June 2009, Kidman from movies like Australia and Urban from his hit record Defying Gravity. The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Up next for Kidman: Rabbit Hole, costarring Aaron Eckhart, about a couple who lose their son.
Jay-Z finally clears up the devil worshipping rumours, and let’s us all know who he believes in. Via Angie Martinez’s radio show yesterday…
“I don’t know where it started. I don’t know where it came from. I really think it’s really silly. For the record, I of course believe in God, but I believe in one God. If people must know my religious beliefs, I believe in one God. I don’t believe in religion. I don’t believe in Christians or Muslims. I think all that separates people. I think it’s one God. I think it’s all the same God, and I don’t believe in Hell. But as far as God, of course I believe in God. Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid to me. It’s like ignorant to even say, and umm… I guess that’ll be the last time I address that. It’s ignorant to me”
I can’t even get in a golf club in Palm Springs. I’m from Marcy Projects. Just think about that? People that control the world?
I think there are cliques of friends that control things. I don’t if there is a devil worshipping sect. That’s a little Tom hanks. I believe there are cliques of people that control the world…but that’s just natural process. I’m sure Obama has his people and everything is good but as far as how far people are taking it…
So you don’t intentionally do this to put people in a frenzy?
I’m an entertainer at the end of the day. Maybe I’ll push your buttons but you know…
Do you believe that those sort of organizations exist?
So there you have it folks – Jay-Z is NOT a “devil worshipper”, nor is a Christian, so to speak. Interesting. Wonder whether Beyonce’s changed her religious views to match that of her husbands?? Would certainly explain why she’s feels more comfortable selling sex in her videos…

Ashanti flew out to Hawaii last week, to relax on a beach with her fam, and enjoy the sunshine. Oh, and to show off her banging bikini body…
Since her split with Nelly, Ashanti has been on her grind from TV production to music, and is said to be planning on releasing her 5th album independently later this year, as a result of her departure from Universal Motown in 2009.

She might struggle singing live, but bish sure knows how to work it for the camera!!
Rihanna is featured in the latest issue of W Magazine, and also graces the cover (pic below). Aside from the hot photoshoot, Rihanna gives us a little more of an insight into her crazy life.
Here’s a few things you may not have known about RiRi before this interview:
The most recent “Never a Failure, Always A Lesson” is written backwards on her collar bone so that she can read it in the mirror
The producer who discovered Rihanna was shocked by her last album
“I have to admit, it was a bit of a shock the first time I heard all the songs. When I first met her, she was painfully shy. “This album was sort of like hearing your daughter using profanity for the first time. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t have concerns about how her core audience would react.”
She has a total of 13 tattoos.
“There were control issues, insecurity. When people are insecure they become very controlling and they can get very aggressive and in turn abusive. It doesn’t have to be physical. Like they would say bad stuff to you to make you feel lesser than them just so they would have control in the relationship. It takes a big toll on your emotions and on your everyday life. It changes you.”
Saturday Night Live’s Parody on Tiger Woods’ Getting Beat By His Wife Didn’t Offend Her:
“Violence should of course be avoided at any cost, but Saturday Night Live is a show that finds humor in every serious situation, so it wasn’t offensive to me in any way.”
Chris apparently only beat her once, but the relationship was controlling
“It’s still hard to listen to certain songs,” she admits. “Certain ones I couldn’t even record—I’d keep pushing them back [on the schedule]. [One song in particular called] “The Last Song,” it has lyrics that read like the final goodbye to a great love. “When the label finally said we had 12 hours to turn in the album, I was like, Okay, I have to do it. I just drank some red wine, dimmed the lights, got in the booth and sang it.”
With All That She’s Been Through this year, She still doesn’t wish for a quiet life in Barbados:
“Oh no, I never fantasize about that,” she says without hesitation. “Because if I were back there, I know I’d be fantasizing about all this.”
She still has a hard time listening to songs that remind her of Chris:
Here’s RiRi on the cover …

As we all know, the devastation that has occurred in Haiti is beyond comprehension. I don’t think that there is any way to imagine how dire the situation actually is. Despite Haiti’s beauty and the beauty of its people, its recent history has been a history of torment and destitution. Finally things seemed to be slowly getting better, and we get this awful reminder of how fragile Haiti is. The destruction is on an unimaginable scale, and we need to help. This may be the biggest humanitarian crisis that any of us will see in our lifetimes, and early reports are saying that there may even be 500,000 lives lost.
As many of you know, Haiti has played a large role in my life. I am on the board of two organizations that work closely with Haiti, and was there this past March with my close friend, Melky Jean, the sister of Wyclef, and our foundation, Carma-Haiti. Many of you have contacted me asking how you can help. The powers that be are asking people not to come to the island, as the situation is too critical for that. The best thing that can be done is to give money and/or goods to large organizations that are established on the ground in Haiti. Here is one way that you can help.
This Friday, January 15, 2010, I am hosting a fundraiser to benefit the Haitian relief effort. Please see the attached flyer for details. The event will feature performances by Kymani and Julian Marley, as well as Melky Jean. Our co-hosts include An Easy Production, Carma Foundation, Love Over all Foundation, the Workshop, Julian Marley, Cedella Marley, Kymani Marley, Melky Jean, Marlon Hill, Cassandra Theramene, Jose Ortiz, Cathy Goodall, Corey Corciari, Ivette Naranjo, and myself. All proceeds and donations will be split between Project Medishare, which is sending doctors and supplies to Haiti, and the Carma Foundation which has boats bringing supplies to Haiti and teams on the ground. The venue and all artists have agreed to donate their proceeds to the foundations.
The event lasts from 7PM-midnight, and a minimum donation of $20 dollars is required (donation gets you a complimentary drink). Anything above that is appreciated and needed. You can donate beforehand online and print out a receipt, or donate at the door. Non-Perishable items such as blankets, clothes, etc. will also be collected. The location is Cafeina lounge located at 297 NW 23rd Street in the Miami Design District, at the corner of 23rd street and NW 2 Avenue.
I would urge you please to attend, or at the very least, to donate online. The people of Haiti need all that we can give right now, plain and simple.
